You may have been taking the contraceptive pill for a number of years or it may be only a short time that you have been on the pill , either way it will have affected your hormones, that’s its job! To put it simply to stop you from becoming pregnant.
Because being on the contraceptive pill affects your hormones it may be difficult to know if your symptoms are due to the perimenopause or not. You will still go through the Perimenopause even if you are taking the contraceptive pill.
Contraceptive pills can contain synthetic forms of oestrogen and progesterone. Because of this any perimenopausal symptoms could be masked and could go unnoticed if you are taking the contraceptive pill.
The perimenopause and Menopause can be confirmed by your doctor.
If you have any concerns or symptoms of the perimenopause whilst on the pill and you are at all concerned it is best to avoid self-diagnosis and book an appointment to see your doctor.
